How to Play Ludus Coriovalli
Basic Rules
Ludus Coriovalli is a two-player asymmetric strategy game. Four Hounds face off against two Hares, alternating turns moving one piece at a time along connected lines on a 19-node board.
The Board
The board consists of 19 nodes connected by lines. Pieces move along these lines to adjacent nodes. Central nodes offer more movement options, while edge and corner positions are more restrictive.
Pieces
Hounds (×4): Start at the top. Goal: cooperate to trap the Hares so they cannot move.
Hares (×2): Start at the middle-right. Goal: survive for 150 turns or achieve threefold repetition.
Victory Conditions
Hounds win by blocking all Hares. Hares win by surviving 150 turns or achieving threefold repetition (same board position three times).
Strategy Guide
Hound Strategy: Advance as a coordinated line. Push Hares toward edges. Patience beats aggression.
Hare Strategy: Stay near the centre for maximum escape routes. Exploit gaps in the Hound formation. Use threefold repetition as a last resort.
